Andha Yug

"Andha Yug" (literally 'Age of Blindness') is an allegorical play written in the aftermath of the Partition of India by Shri. Dharamvir Bharti. The main theme has been borrowed from the Mahabharata. The present performance was held in Delhi in 1989, on the occasion of the Nehru Shatabdi Samaroh Festival, and has been preserved by the Natya Shodh Sansthan, Kolkata (NSS), since. Set on the final day of the Kurukshetra war and concluding with Krishna's demise, this tragedy explores the moral collapse, cycles of revenge, and psychological trauma of war. In five acts, "Andha Yug" depicts a pyrrhic tragedy of the Kali Yuga—the worst, shortest, and darkest of the 4 ages—in which recursive violence degrades the fabric of civilization and blinds individuals to reason as they are forced to reckon with the devastation's fallout.
